Carl Walker Construction, Inc. Wins $40 Million Contract To Build a Casino Parking Garage At New Sands BethWorks Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, PA - Carl Walker Construction, Inc. (CWC), experts in parking garage construction, repair and maintenance, has recently been awarded a $40 million contract from Sands BethWorks, LLC to construct the structural frame for a major new casino parking garage at the Sands BethWorks in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The garage project will be delivered on a fast-track basis, with design and long-lead material procurement beginning immediately. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008, and is to be completed within 11 months to coincide with the scheduled opening of the Casino.

The new casino parking garage structure will provide approximately 3200 parking spaces on seven levels. A total of 1,100,000 square feet of supported area will be constructed, and is intended to service the new casino. It will be sited on land formerly occupied by the historic Bethlehem Steel Works. The project will consist of post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete decks supported by a steel frame. All deck waterproofing elements are also included in the scope of work.

Comprised of 9.5 million pounds of steel, the frame of the garage will be galvanized for corrosion protection. The structure supporting the concrete decks will consist of castellated beams – hybrid girders that offer superior load bearing qualities while requiring less steel per linear foot. In addition to parking for automobiles, the facility will incorporate specialized lighting and ventilation systems to support an intermodal transportation area on its first level. The intermodal facility will be used to accommodate tour and commuter busses.

CWC will access local labor through hiring halls in the Bethlehem area. The firm anticipates having 40 to 50 laborers on the jobsite each day for nine months.
