HUB at 3 Crossings

The 3 Crossings Development represents the transformation of the former trucking yards of Pittsburgh’s past into the sustainable neighborhood of the future. The development required a multimodal hub for the neighboring residential and commercial developments, including space for cars, bikes, and kayaks.

CWC was awarded the contract to finalize the design/build RFP of the 588-space precast parking structure. Substantial completion within 11 months from the notice to proceed was critical to support the in-progress developments nearby.

The challenges were numerous: contending with an unusually high saturation of adjoining construction projects, site reclamation necessitated by previous contamination, and a tight footprint abutting a restricted railroad.

The design involved special façade elements to complement the aesthetic of sister developments. The elevator and stair tower had ground face precast walls, the spandrel panels were stained to match the neighborhood, and the retail space utilizes a glass storefront highlighted by a stamped/dyed patio surrounded by railings of stainless steel and glass.

We selected Carl Walker Construction for a design build parking structure for our Hub at 3 Crossings Development in the Strip District. Their staff displayed a complete understanding of the project scope, which resulted in a high-quality end product. They did an exceptional job of tracking project schedule, budget and working through the design with our team to deliver a parking garage that fit our development.
