Working closely with casino owners, construction managers and architects, Carl Walker Construction successfully helps casino owners leverage their investments in parking structures by:
Maximizing parking and revenue generation capacity through value engineering
Minimizing construction and building materials expenses
Integrating automobile parking structures with intermodal transportation facilities
Devising coordinated construction strategies that support fast-track development of these parking garages
Carl Walker Construction has recently completed the following large-scale casino development projects.
Sands BethWorks Casino
In Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Carl Walker Construction recently completed a 40 million structural cast-in-place concrete post-tensioning deck at the Sands BethWorks Casino. The new parking structure provides 3,200 parking spaces on seven levels. The parking structure rests on 209,000 square feet of land formerly occupied by the historic Bethlehem Steel Works.
Comprised of 9.5 million pounds of steel, the frame of the garage is galvanized for corrosion protection. The structure supporting the concrete decks consists of castellated beams – hybrid girders that offer superior load bearing qualities while minimizing the amount of steel needed per linear foot. In addition to parking for automobiles, the facility incorporates specialized lighting and ventilation systems to support an intermodal transportation area on its first level. The intermodal facility is used to accommodate tour and commuter busses. The project was completed in 10 months.
Carl Walker Construction was contracted to build $13.6 million, five-story, 1,000-car parking garage at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington, Pennsylvania. The new 327,000 square-foot garage was a design/build assignment. It incorporate a pre-stressed, precast concrete frame and cast-in-place deck surfaces. The new garage joins the casino at a shared column line, and features a firewall separating the two structures.
Cannery Casino Resorts owns the Meadows Racetrack and Casino. Carl Walker Construction worked closely with LP Ciminelli, of Buffalo, New York, the construction manager on the project. The garage was built in 11 months and opened in May 2009.
Majestic Star Casino
Carl Walker Construction worked on the waterproofing strategies that were used to construct the parking garage of the new Majestic Star Casino in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The development is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, and required comprehensive waterproofing strategies to address the challenges posed by a high water table. Carl Walker Construction installed the waterproofing system for the parking garage, which is linked to the casino. Carl Walker Construction was also responsible for all finished concrete work as related to the parking facility only.
